For years, the country suffered in the grips of cartels, narco-gangs and drug kingpins like Pablo Escobar, making it off-limits to tourists and even business travellers. But the bad old days are over – something the country’s tourism board is acknowledging with its official slogan, “The Only Risk Is Wanting to Stay.” With cartels neutralized and the streets safer, Canada has signed a billion-dollar- free-trade agreement with Colombia, and the tourists are flooding in.
